The days of noticeable metal fillings are gone. Cosmetic dentistry has advanced to the point where fillings can now be matched to the color of your teeth and thus be virtually invisible.
Fillings are used to treat cavities. If you suspect you have a filling - i.e., you have tooth pain, especially when exposed to cold - you need to see a dentist as soon as possible. Untreated cavities lead to prolonged pain and an increased risk of further tooth decay.
If you do have a cavity, metal-free fillings, generally speaking, are for you. They're used in almost all instances where metal fillings once were. Additionally, if you currently have metal fillings, you, in most cases, can have those metal fillings replaced by metal-free fillings.
In addition to being less noticeable, and therefore more cosmetically pleasing, metal-free fillings are also less conductive of heat and cold. Also, metal-free fillings take less time to harden than traditional fillings - so you'll be out of the dentist's chair sooner!
